As we expand, we are seeking experienced and motivated Independent Contract Political Reporters to contribute original reporting and analysis.

Position Overview

We are looking for independent journalists with a strong understanding of U.S. politics and Congress to produce timely, accurate, and engaging content. This is a remote, flexible contract role ideal for reporters, writers, researchers, or policy analysts seeking bylines, exposure, and long-term collaboration.

You will pitch, research, write, and publish original content under the USCongress.us brand.

Responsibilities

  • Research and write original articles on U.S. Congressional activity
  • Cover legislation, hearings, leadership developments, and elections
  • Analyze policy implications at the federal and state levels
  • Monitor breaking political news and emerging trends
  • Conduct interviews with lawmakers, staffers, analysts, or experts (when applicable)
  • Meet editorial standards for accuracy, sourcing, and deadlines
  • Collaborate with editors on story development and revisions

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background in journalism, political science, law, public policy, or related field
  • Demonstrated knowledge of U.S. Congress and federal governance
  • Strong research, writing, and analytical skills
  • Ability to explain complex political issues clearly and objectively
  • Prior publishing experience (digital, print, or broadcast preferred)
  • Familiarity with AP Style or similar editorial standards
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
